Asara Shiraz 2003
£13.75
Based in the hills just outside Stellenbosch, wine has been made at Asara for over 300 years (did I hear someone say New World?)
Careful primary and secondary fermentation of the low-yield grapes was followed by 31 months in a mixture of new, second and third fill French and American Oak. Cherry and blackberry fruit aromas, spicy wood and cigar box smokiness with earthy organic nuances. “Vibrantly alluring” said the John Platter guide, before awarding it a near perfect 4½ stars. Limited availability.
