Reds

Reds

A range of styles including single varietals and blends. Some young and un-wooded, some more complex and structured from careful use of oak and bottle ageing.

Pinotage, South Africa’s very own red grape, creates wines which range from light and fruity to more complex styles with richness and layers of flavour. When used in conjunction with other varieties the wines are known as Cape Blends. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are both represented either as single varietals showing their own unique characteristics, or blended, often with other varieties such as Cabernet Franc to produce what are referred to as Bordeaux Blends. Shiraz is growing in popularity with growers from the Cape , possibly because the wines it produces are often the perfect partner to South Africa’s favourite style of cooking, the ubiquitous braai – that’s a BBQ to us. Malbec is grown in very small quantities, but when they get it right, well, try not to cry, Argentina.
